About Alex Baradel
Alex Baradel (France, 1973) has a postgraduate degree in Art and Film History from the Université Paris VIII Vincennes-Saint-Denis.
He has been responsible for the Pierre Verger Foundation’s photographic collection since 2001. At the Foundation, he supervised the major project that aimed to organize the institution’s iconographic collection, including supervising the high-resolution digitization of the entire collection, its cleaning, packaging, and organization in a photographic database, the main access tool to photographs from the institution’s collection.
He is the curator of several exhibitions about Pierre Verger, notably, Pierre Verger, de um mundo ao outro (Palacete das Artes, Salvador, 2011), As Aventuras de Pierre Verger (MAM Salvador and Museu Afro-Brasil São Paulo, 2015), Orixás (Museu da Fotografia de Fortaleza, 2018), and Pierre Fatumbi Verger – The One That I am Not (Museum Cobra, Amstelveen 2024). He is also the co-curator and co-author of exhibitions and catalogs including O Brasil de Pierre Verger (MAM São, Paulo, MAM Rio de janeiro, MAM Salvador – 2005, 2006), Memórias de Pierre Verger (2011), Todos Iguais Todos Diferentes (MIS São Paulo, MAR Rio – 2019, 2023) e Pierre Verger, Percursos e Memórias (Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo, 2022).
He created audiovisuals for exhibitions such as Olhares Nômades (2008), Memórias de Pierre Verger (2015), and Interiores (2016).
In 2016, he conceived and curated the Espaço Pierre Verger da Fotografia Baiana, a permanent space for Bahian photography, at Forte de Santa Maria in Salvador. In 2021, he coordinated the digitalization project of the Castro Alves Theater’s photographic collection.

Tacun Lecy (Salvador, Brazil, 1977) is an award-winning photographer and researcher. Since 2009, he develops an ongoing photographic research and documentation project on Afro-Brazilian cultures, focusing on the Candomblés Jeje-Nagô of the Recôncavo Baiano region and in the surviving quilombola communities.
His photography has been exhibited and published in countries such as Brazil, the United States France, and Colombia. He has collaborated with the Pierre Verger Foundation on several initiatives. In 2016, he was selected to be part of the permanent collection of Forte Santa Maria – Espaço Pierre Verger da Fotografia Baiana, becoming part of the hall of photographers who have Bahia as the focus of their work. In 2023, he was nominated for the Foam Paul Huf Award 2023 (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), a major photography award given to artists whose creative vision speaks to our current time and makes a significant contribution to today’s photography community.
