Pedersen made his entry into the Danish avant-garde art circles in 1937 when he participated in a group exhibition of the art movement Linien (1934-1939). When the group fell apart, Pedersen joined Høst. Together with the Høst artists he aimed to find an answer to cultural and social problems through the international developments in art. Later Cobra founder Asger Jorn was also involved in Høst. Through Jorn, Pedersen became involved with the magazine Helhesten, where he was able to delve into his artistic and political considerations.
